Cibap year four

2020 - 2021

My final year was where everything came together. I challenged myself with complex projects combining design, storytelling, AR and real craftsmanship. From The Living Painting to client work and my final internship, this year showed me how much I had grown and how far creativity can go when you commit fully.

PROJECT - DAVO

2020 – Zwolle

In a group of six students we searched for our own client and ended up working with Davo, a craft beer bar in Zwolle. They wanted something to fill an empty wall inside the bar.

After brainstorming with the owner, we designed a large wall piece with the Davo logo, made from rusted steel and wood. We added RGB lighting around the outside ring to make it pop. The end result fit the interior really well.

PROJECT - THE LIVING PAINTING

2020 – Cibap

This was my final project at Cibap, a culmination of everything I learned during four years of media design education, plus a chance to explore some new skills.

I set out to create something that combined storytelling, physical design, film, and augmented reality. And that’s how The Living Painting came to life.

The project started with a digital 3D object I designed in Illustrator and Autodesk Fusion. From there, I sent the model to a CNC machine to carve out an wooden frame. Inside the frame is a portrait of a girl, but this isn’t just a regular painting.

The painting has a story. It’s said to be cursed… The girl (performed by Jude) in the painting died at the hands of her father, who painted her portrait. Even after the house burned down, the painting survived without a single scratch.

Visitors could scan the artwork with their phone, and through augmented reality, the painting would come to life on their screens. They’d hear the eerie story told in a haunting radio-style narration (performed by Joey), while a flyer next to the piece revealed the full written version of the story, which I wrote, inspired by the PS4 demo P.T.

This was one of the most challenging and rewarding projects I’ve worked on. It pushed me to combine multiple skills, design, storytelling, AR, and physical craftsmanship, into a single, immersive experience. A truly fitting finale to my time at Cibap’s Creative Technology program.

INTERNSHIP - XPLOSIEF

2021 – AR / Exam Project, Zwolle

For my final internship and exam project, I created an AR experience for a newly built “green” bus stop. This was a collaboration between Xplosief and several schools and organizations in Zwolle.

To make it accessible for people waiting at the bus stop, I built the whole AR experience in the browser, so users only had to scan a QR code. At the time, browser-based AR was still very new, so getting it to work with WebXR was a real challenge. But in the end, it worked, and it became one of my favorite projects.
